Music Break

Cover songs!  I've always enjoyed cover songs and cover bands.  I understand the preferred term is Tribute Band.  I stumbled upon these two Tribute Bands.  Maybe you will see the similarity.

Check it out!

Have a good weekend!

Music Break

While I don't drink beer everyday, I do listen to music everyday.  There are 4 things I don't go without when I leave the house.  My keys, wallet, phone, and iPod.

Yes, I'm the guy who still listens on an iPod.  The 16GB on my iPhone are nearly enough to hold the music I need to carry.  After all, you never know what mood you'll be in at any given moment.

I listen at work, I listen in the car, and I listen while I doze off to sleep at night.  I like music.  Some songs are profound, some make me think, some soothe while other invigorate.

Alice is able to do most all of that, all in his own unique way.  This song makes me laugh.  ...and it's about something else I don't go a day without.

Excuse me while I take a break from blogging about beer.  This one is for my wife...married 19 years today.

It's amazing how the time flies.  We've both changed over the years and yet some things don't seem to change at all.  They still do move in herds and poor Joe still doesn't have any hands.  (Yeah, private jokes. We've got 19 years worth of them.)  I'm still the goofy one and she is still the smart one.  And believe it or not, I'm the romantic (if there is such a thing).  In another 19 years, we'll have been married for 38 years.  ;-)

Don't worry, there will be plenty of craft beer to drink while we enjoy a nice dinner this evening.  Perhaps that is part of the secret to our success.

Remember, Guinness Girl, if the sun refused to shine, I'd still be loving you.

I found this gem of a song. Appropriate for the weekend

No explanation given here.  Just watch it!

And here is another free one....  One of my favorites, which I'm sure to hear live today and we celebrate a day early.

And as the Irish would say, Slainte!

Music Break

I'm not quite sure why, but we were listening to Queensryche the other day.  I explained to my son that Operation Mindcrime was a dystopian album.  I'm not convinced he was impressed, even though he is no stranger to dystopian literature.

Music break

What a week... very busy, in fact, non-stop.  If it isn't the craziness all day at work, it's the puppy crying all night.  And it's been both this week.

Have you ever seemed so tired, that the only music that sounds good is acoustic?  Too tired for the screaming guitars, booming drums, etc.  Am I making any sense?  Oh maybe I should just get to the point.

Or just get to the music.

Sunday Fun: Das Boot video

This video is great!  Check it out.  "Das Boot, ooh yeah, that's more like it, keep pouring."

As of Christmas, I am a proud owner of a Das Boot.  The box lies by the way, it won't fit 4 beers, more like 3.25.  But who's counting?

Music Break - Time Flies

With another year about to end, I tend to get a little sentimental with thoughts of what happened and didn't happen, what I did and didn't do, what I could have or should have done, the opportunities taken, the precious moments lost.  Taking in the good and the bad, I'm quick to realize how the older I get, the quicker the years go by...the time definitely flies.

I find the song appropriate for this time of year.  Porcupine Tree is a band I enjoy thoroughly.  In a sense this song is considered a tribute to another one of my favorite bands, Pink Floyd (you can hear the influence and not-so-subtle elements from Floyd in this song).

And the lyrics that impact me the most are as follows:

She said luck is all you make it
You just reach out and take it
Now let's dance a while

She said nothing ever happens
If you don't make it happen
And if you can't laugh then smile
For the complete lyrics, you can click here.

Have a safe and happy New Year!

Hoppy Christmas from Dunerbrew

Help me spread some holiday cheer with a Christmas Beer song.

Sending you wishes for a nice holiday with family, friends, nice gifts, yummy food, and as always, a great beer (or two... or more).

And on another more serious note... really consider taking a few extra moments to enjoy the family you have, whether good, bad or ugly.  Life is short, and those around you are the ones so easily taken for granted, yet they are the most important.  I'm the worst at this perhaps, but found myself reflecting and appreciating a little more on my family lately.  Make the most of this Christmas season.

Have a Beery Hoppy Christmas this year!

Some appropriate music, maestro!

It's Friday!  Time to shift gears a bit...

The first time I was introduced to their music, I became a fan.  "This is a song about a car.  It's called the Red Barchetta."  It was Exit Stage Left, and a high school friend lent me the tape.  A strong appreciation of the art, talent, musicianship, and insightful lyrics has kept me a fan all these years.  Their music is complex and innovative.  They've kept their A game for some 37ish years, evolving with the times, keeping the music real, refusing to cave to the pressures for chart success.... they are three talented musicians simply doing what they love.  At least that is the way I see it.

The recent Induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is arguably long overdue.

This opening sequence from the R30 concert, The R30 Overture, gives a brief overview of their career while highlighting some excellent songs.  Am I being too dramatic on this?

While listening, perhaps check out this interesting read from Rolling Stone.

Music Break Friday

I thought this was great last year.  It is no less great now.  If you are in need of some Christmas spirit, there is nothing better than some good old fashioned Slayer... and lights.

Music Break

Arguably the best heavy metal band of all time... and still rocking after all these years.

Metal fans know the style as NWBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal)

BTW, if you haven't seen their documentary, Flight 666, it is well worth the time.  Imagine touring the world in your own 727...

Music Break... Free Will

One of my favorite bands, and one which has withstood the test of time.  Arguably, they continue to get better as time advances, improving their skill.  The old stuff does not quickly get old, and the new songs continue to capture my interest.  These guys are serious musicians.  As craft beer is to the mass market fuzzy yellow lagers, so is Rush to any pop radio friendly group.

Enjoy!
