Let's talk a bit about gravity

I decided to make a strong ale, similar to Arrogant Bastard.  The recipe was expected to yield about 1.080 original gravity.

Gravity after mashing came to 1.060, with 6 gallons total volume.

After the 1 hour boil, I had around 4.25 gallons, at 1.080...just as I had planned.  Mash temp was at around 155 deg.



















...And, here is the cool thing.  After a week fermenting, the gravity was as 1.014.  This is about 9% ABV.  I racked to secondary and will now wait a few more weeks.
